There’s A New Search Engine In Town, and It’s Really Cuil!

A new search engine has surfaced, and it is called “cuil.” I believe it is pronounced “cool” Their website cuil.com suggest you’ll have over 121,6 billion web pages available to search through. They claim to search more pages than anyone else. In their comparison with the others they say they search, “three times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft.”

They also say, “rather than rely on superficial popularity metrics, Cuil searches for and ranks pages based on their content and relevance…” That to me sound almost like google, except for the popularity part. Google does deliver results based on the popularity of a particular page. The more popular the page, the more chance that the web page will end up on the first search result on google.com, but, Cuil.com is more interested in relevance. Certainly, if you have a business to run on-line the new differences are very important. Where your page was lost before, it may now be found.

If what cuil.com is promising they’re able to deliver, It may prove what the experts have been saying, “content is king” What that means is even if you have good and relevant content, but, lack popularity with google because other websites didn’t link to you as much as the other website with the similar content, You may do better in the new search engine if you have better content in the way of relevance to the searched keyword or phrases. Therefore you may need to improve on your content. Of course this is speculation on my part. It is a conclusion based on what They say further on the page, “When we find a page with your keywords, we stay on that page and analyze the rest of its content, its concepts, their inter-relationships and the page’s coherency.” That seems like a hint to improve one’s content if you want your page to be found. This to me, would be another great equalizer; where as the big sites are able to buy links to satisfy google’s algorithm, or pay a staff to write content for them, You won’t necessarily have to compete with their deep pockets to be found. You don’t have to pay a lot of money for good accurate content even though it may happen slower for you.

Whether you are selling a product on-line or just posting ads, content in relation to your product or theme is still important for visibility on both Google and the new cuil.com. Some like myself, have found that submitting free articles (which is content) to websites such as article-content-king.com and other sites like it, help to increase my page popularity with google. (My mistake was not continuing to write since 2006, until recently, plus one link is out dated, and I lost the ranking because I didn’t deliver new content. ) Many people will go to article-content-king.com and extract my article with my links which points back to my site, then, they’ll post my article on their site which allows me to get many links back to my site. However, since Cuil.com is not interested in popularity but content and relevance, then, it seems using original good content on your site which they may present to someone searching for what you have, even though, you may not show up at least on the first page on google. This might be a way to cover bases in both places.

If cuil.com is to make a positive difference in the world of search for both searcher and website owners. more people will have to be aware of, and use this new search tool. Although cuil is not paying me, I don’t mind getting the word out. Competition is good for the market place. I hope cuil will be cool.

What To look Out For If You’re Optimizing Your Pages For Google Image Search: “Bloggers Exploit Google Image Search” By Dr. Ken Envoy

Ken’s Blog

My daughter has been using Site Build It! to grow her Web site about the Caribbean island of Anguilla for four years.  Now 18, she has averaged only 1-2 hours per week on Anguilla-Beaches.com.

She is found for over 12,000 keywords related to Anguilla and has one of the “Big 4″ sites about Anguilla.  The site receives thousands of visitors per day and has the highest Alexa traffic ranking of any Anguilla-related site.

Besides traffic from “text search,” she also has many first-page SERPs for Google Image search.  So she generates a ton of image search traffic, including searches for celebrities who visit the island.

But recently she had the misfortune for Google’s image search for Jay-Z to put her site at Page 1, #1. Why “misfortune”?…

Free Advertising, is it worth it or not?

Warning: copy() [function.copy]: Filename cannot be empty in /home/emarketr/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/mytube/mytube.php on line 220

Free advertising is not worth going after because you get what you pay for.  You must spend good money on advertising if you want quality traffic to your website… This was basically the advise given by the owner of a “home based business” blog to his readers, Which I read several hours ago.

He is correct in one sense and wrong in another.  There are some places on the web such as free classified sites where,  you would be better off standing at a street corner and hand out circulars to advertise your business, because they are a waste of your time.  You just would not get the targeted traffic if any at all you would need for your site.

However being in the generic listing on the first page of a result page when a searcher/potential customer is looking for your product on  search engines such as Google or Yahoo is free traffic worth acheiving.  This, as you know, is not an easy thing to accomplish, but, it can be accomplished through methods such as writing articles and submitting them to article directories although, this is getting harder because of saturation.  Another method is exchanging links. Google still rates your site based on how many high ranking links you have coming into your site.

Another source of free traffic is satisfied customers.  A satisfied customer will either return to your site and or will tell others about you.  A good recommendation from a satisfied customer is as good as gold.

Now on the other hand if you are starting out with much money to spend, by all means spending on search engine advertising or e-zine ads.  Just be sure to watch how much you spend vs how much you’re making. the cost could add up fast, especially on google.

Not everyone has a big budget to work with in the early days of an internet business, or even an off-line business.  I can identify with that. that is why I believe in exploiting the quality free avenues as much as possible.  I’ll talk about it more later.

Free Web traffic

Warning: copy() [function.copy]: Filename cannot be empty in /home/emarketr/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/mytube/mytube.php on line 220

From my last post you may get the impression that I’m obsessed with search engine traffic, Well… I am, especially with free search engine traffic, but, only to a certain point. I recognize how important to the bottom line free search engine traffic is. Therefore striving to get traffic from that source is something worth going after. Keeping in mind the difficulty of the task however, one should not fail to exploit other avenues of free internet traffic simultaneously.

Do not be afraid to be creative with old sources such as forums and new ones such as blogs and video posting sites. Be sure to leave your “anchor text link” which points back to your site when you contribute to the disscussions, that is, if the site owner will let you leave a anchor text link.

I will elaborate more on posting and anchor text links on later posts, right now I want you to take a look at a guy who just a few days ago posted a video on Youtube.com, promoting the “internet lifestyle” called “Google Cash Strikes back” As I was writing this, it had gotten 201,028 views

This is the guy who’s ebook “Googlecash” introduced me to earning money by placing text ads on google and yahoo, even without a website of your own. Then things got difficult in this area of affiliate marketing because of Google’s constant changing and other factors. Many were not making the big money they used to make. Something had to be done to correct this.

He then developed a software which he says will put the affiliate marketer back on the road to earning big money. You can get the full story from his free report here: “Google Cash Strikes Back, Free Report and Video! You can also watch the video while you are there!

This video is a good example of how to get free traffic from a video posting site. remember it got 201,028 views in about ten days and lots of traffic because of those views.

Untill I learn how to post the video directly on this blog you will have to watch it by following the link. When I get it at this site I’ll edit this post to reflect that. Again the Video link is Google Cash Strikes Back, Free Report and Video!
I DID IT !!! I was able to get the video working on this site. see it below!

You can get the free report here at: “Google Cash Strikes Back” Free Report.
Put the video on pause if you don’t want to see it twice!

Why I think Google lowered my rank

Warning: copy() [function.copy]: Filename cannot be empty in /home/emarketr/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/mytube/mytube.php on line 220

After making my first post below, It dawned on me that another reason Google may have lowered my ranking may be because, after some human reviewed my article “E-zine Advertising, An Affordable Alternative to Google” They decided I was encouraging business away from Google. It’s just a theory. What do you think?

Do you think that Google want the entire pie for themselve only? They are not that greedy are they?

Warning: copy() [function.copy]: Filename cannot be empty in /home/emarketr/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/mytube/mytube.php on line 220

This post was revised again on July 17th 2007.  See the reason why here

Hello and welcome to all my colleagues in the internet marketing world. This is is a revised first post of the my original first entry on April 24, 2006. Because of my neglect of this blog and the passing of time, I thought it was best to start a freah one. So here I go again!

We share something in common, that is, we all understand and appreciate the power of the internet to change and empower us. You like me did not purchase your first second or third computer to simply play video games and exchange e-mails. We are here to a recoup our investments and beyond.

A few years ago It could be truly said that the internet was the equalizer when it came to making money. In some ways it is still true. In other ways the big boys with their unmatched advertising budgets have been making it very expensive for the smaller guys to present their wares to the world. (How much is it costing you to advertise on Google, Yahoo etc. these days?)

To stay in the game, one has to learn new ways to let others know you are there.

I am sympathetic to the plight of the underdog marketer. I am not one of those people who will get upset and remove your comment because it has a link to a site you are promoting. I understand we all deserve a chance to make a living in this difficult world. So, please, comment as you wish, and leave your text link or your Url address. However, like everthing else in this world there are rules, mine are simple.

There are certain websites I will delete from the comment area, such as, Porno sites, gambling sites, hate sites or any sites with questionable business practices.

Sites with “POP UP”  ads can be an annoyance, therefore if you are not among the banned sites but you have pop ups,  leave links to a page without pop ups. If your intentions are decent, fair and respect other people rights you are safe here.

The other thing I ask is, do not just simply leave your link,  you must contribute to this community with your comments or questions. Just saying “Cool Site”  or “Great Site” is not informing other readers.  It is to your advantage for you to leave an informative comment  that others can benefit from.  They will respect and/or appreciate you for it and visit the link to your site.

Only one link is allowed!

I also ask that you link back to this blog with http://www.e-marketreview.com/blog.

Now, speaking of Google and advertising, I try to follow the rules as far as getting listed and ranking high on the search engine result pages, however I have not been spending too much effort in that area, I have instead, started to write free articles and distribute them to e-zines and e-zine directories, and have seen my google ranking go up as a result.

This great, considering, I wasn’t purposely optimizing for Google, Nevertheless I received the benifit of a Google rank increase for the home page of this blog which is
http://www.e-marketreview.com. Then it was gone. However not totally, some pages manage to survive, though, the rankings were low. See my first article “E-zine Advertising, An Affordable Alternative To Google” By: Paul Ranger at a respected site here: http://www.marketingsource.com/articles/view/3560

I’m not certain why My home page ranking was lowered, but, I’m leaning toward the wisdom of a SEO expert who said (I’m paraphrasing him!)that if you have an article that is widely distributed on the internet, and if the article is what gave you the high ranking because of the links back to your site in the article, chances are, google will now lower your ranking because of saturation. In other words there are too many sites carring the same article.

He may me correct, because, there many are more site where this artcle have been posted.

He suggest (Again, I’m paraphrasing him!) distributing different versions of the same article, or, convey the same message in different articles.

Now, back to the article. The purpose of the article is to send the message that there are other alternatives to getting quality traffic to your site such as E-zine Advertising besides throught google, paid or generic. this is another way to keep the playing field level.

Keep this in mind also,  when you leave your comments and links here,  I will do the same at your site. We will grow togather.

Another SEO expert said, (Paraphrase) do not fail to exchange links with low ranking web sites or pages. they may rank low today and rank higher tomorrow. I say, you will benefit from that vote for your web site when they rank higher tomorrow.

Talk to you later folks.
Paul Ranger.
